Mary Stirnemann
Intern
I believe each person is created to experience growth and healing within the context of relationship with God and others. I desire to provide a compassionate space where we can establish a strong therapeutic relationship and within which you can feel safe to tell your story and pursue your goals. My role as your counselor is to listen deeply and actively to your story and to reflect the themes and meanings that I hear so that you can be equipped to do the work of self-exploration. We will walk together to discover ways of thinking, behaving or perceiving yourself and others that may not be serving you well and working to replace them with those that can. I am passionate in treating the whole person and encourage exploration of the connection between the mind and body as part of the path to increased wellness and life balance. I also believe in each person’s unique giftedness and in the joy that can be experienced when those gifts are cultivated and offered to the world.
I have gained experience as a counselor during my graduate studies seeing clients at the School of Education and Human Services Counseling Center at Oakland University. My work at the center included seeing clients seeking help with a variety of life’s challenges including anxiety, depression, grief and relational stresses. I have work experience as a Community Living Supports provider for clients with special needs and as a Job Coach for clients with traumatic brain injuries.
